Sonja Mosick – Bremen and Mallorca based sculptor

Biography

Sculpting the Invisible – Sonja Mosick is an internationally active sculptor based in both Mallorca (Spain) and Bremen (Germany). Her work, deeply shaped by a significant period spent in St. Martin in the Caribbean, explores the intersection of form and emotion. more

Mosick’s sculptures bring to life elemental, unconscious structures through sweeping, organic shapes that contrast the softness of feminine curves with the rigid strength of materials like stone and bronze.

Her art transcends the boundaries of tangible reality, drawing on themes from a mystical realm that eludes the ordinary. Rather than depicting visible physicality, Mosick aims to capture ephemeral moments in solid form, crafting abstract representations of invisible yet deeply felt forces. These “petrified” inner visions are translated into fluid, sensuous shapes carved from hard stone, blending the ethereal with the material.

Mosick’s artistic style, echoing the works of masters like Arp and Moore, goes beyond mere replication of the natural world, instead creating a new, symbolic nature that reveals deeper truths. This approach aligns with the romantic tradition, where art acts as a bridge between the viewer and the unseen, infusing the work with a sense of the ineffable.

The title of her catalog, Taste for the Invisible, encapsulates this ethos, reflecting her pursuit of the essence of things and a profound connection to nature—an exploration of happiness, perhaps even a glimpse of paradise.

“As a sculptor, I build bridges—bridges between the invisible and the visible world. My sculptures are abstractions of unseen yet perceptible forces—”petrified” inner images, transformed into soft forms in hard stone.” – Sonja Mosick
